My favourite in India, a great place to experience Hindu culture. Ganga River and the ghats are so lively! Amazing! Excellent place for photographing! Physically slightly similar to Shanghai Bund, except the locals use the holy water for bathing, spirit purification, washing and daily chores. It is rated heavily polluted river, but defying by the Indians. Body cremations also took place here, but tourists shouldn’t stay too close, this is not a show. Sent my jacket for laundry once, later thought of washing with Ganga River water, ha... cleanliness remains doubt, but for sure all sins would be washed away. Love the atmosphere, friendly, peaceful and holy. Very often someone offered a boat ride, souvenirs, massage and beard shaving at the ghats. A boat ride on the Ganges is recommended. Kids like photographing but some requested money or chocolate. The alleys are narrow, often walking abreast with cows, beware of the fresh dung especially early morning.
