20051227 Orchha

A very small village with population of approx. 9000 people. It has been neglected and not well known in the conventional tourism program. In my opinion, it has great potential to be among the “must-see” in India. Grand palaces, mosque and many ruins scattered around the village. Admission fees was merely Rs 30 + Rs 20 (camera), terrific value for money. Unfortunately the maintenance was not well taken care of, but I enjoyed its “original”. The capability and the knowledge of the ancient people to construct these mammoth structures is startling. There is one crystal clear river at the south of the village (the only one I have seen in India, so far). Some Sadhus were trying to earn some money by posing for tourist’s camera. One Sadhu nicely decorated with flowers asked Rs 50 from me, but later saw Indian paid him "coins" for the same. Foreigner’s rate is also applied on Sadhu?! I like Orchha very much, quiet and hassle free.
