The most famous icon of India - Taj Mahal, an advertised "must-see" draws large crowd of tourists. It is no doubt beautiful, especially the "pietra duna" (marble inlay work), but in my opinion the admission Rs 750 is too expensive. Tourists made too much noise inside the mausoleum. The basement room is locked, no visit is permitted. The 2 brown buildings on both sides of the white marble structure are equally beautiful. The Agra Fort is not interesting to me, probably I have seen Orchha and Gwalior, quite disappointed. The rickshaw wallah pleaded me to visit some souvenir shops so that he could collect commission for bringing tourist there (guess Rs 50). I refused, didn't want to be hassled and pushed to buy anything. The nearby similar but smaller and less frequented Baby Taj was the first marble structure of its kind (Taj Mahal was built after it). Almost the whole building is covered with "pietra duna", beautiful. Admission fee is much lower.
