Never expected Mumbai is so boring (or I expected too much?). The icon of Mumbai - Gate of India disappointed me indeed. The gate is OK but not exceptionally striking or beautiful, lacking of space for crowds. The luxurious Taj Mahal Hotel opposite to it looks grand. The contrast between the rich and the poor society here is drastic. The rich moves in and out with their expensive cars while the homeless shivering in the chilly night. Chowpatty Beach at night is lively, seems to be a hotspot for locals to hangout after dinner. The ambience is fresh, breezy, no usual awful fish stink though the water is warned unsuitable for swimming, sand is course, no rubbish scattered. There is a tiny manual operating funfair / playground for the kids, I like this eco-friendly idea. The hotel rooms boast the highest rate in India.
