20060209 Mamalapuram

The 5 Rathas and Shore Temple are too small, yet foreigners have to pay Rs 250 admission. Too much! Nothing really special. Spent rest of the days on the ruins around. The seafood is quite cheap (for tourist standard), probably the competition in the industries is steep. There are many orphanages in this area. Kids are seeking tourists after school to visit their home and expecting some donations. I went to one that houses 26 boys (no girls – the small compound doesn’t provide privacy to girls) aged 5 – 18. Donated some amount and some used stuffs. Respect the efforts of those volunteers, kids at least have someone to love, given education, a shelter and foods. This is much better than those homeless. Felt sorry for the boys. They gave me a big hug each before I left, deeply touched!

To remind me how lucky I am, and shall not forget those in needs of help and love!
