Travelling route (click to enlarge) |
Frankly I didn’t enjoy much this 2nd trip. Probably there was no excitement satisfying my “curiosity” (McLeod Ganj was an exception). The general unhygienic environment and the typical arrogant kinda attitude of a handful local people (exerting superiority) were annoying. Very likely I wouldn’t visit India again. Never say never… I still have my heart with the Tibetan refugees and hope to set my feet on Ladakh one day.

Namaste!
Before the visit, never thought of India has so much to offer to tourists. It has profound history and rich cultures, among the earliest and greatest civilization in the world history. The tourism promotions should be further enhanced.
Traveling in India is relatively easy and safe. The transportation system is convenient and cheap, but the quality is not so satisfactory. Many buses are old (mainly local buses). On the train, one has to be always alert of thieves and the arrival to the destination. No announcement is made, and the time schedule is not so reliable sometimes.
English is common though you might encounter communication barricade in the small villages, but the helps from friendly locals would ease the way.
Budget accommodation is plentiful in India. Ironically, one could spend a few hundred US dollars for a night sleeping in lavish hotel while lots of homeless shivering along the road pavement and starving. The contrast is drastic!
Food is cheap if you go for local options such as chapatti, dosa, dhal, naan and thali are among the daily staples of Indians. They have variety of sweets, but mostly sugar content is excessive. Western foods are available but more expensive relatively.
In most places, there are official different admission fees charged to the locals and foreigners. Taj Mahal is the extreme case, the admission fees on Indians and foreigners are Rs20 and Rs750 respectively! I do agree on double rating systems, but the difference should be within sensible range.
Enjoy!
